Riot on the Dance Floor director Steve Tozzi interview

Steve Tozzi's Riot on the Dance Floor: The Story of Randy Now and City Gardens

Steve Tozzi directed the film Riot on the Dance Floor: The Story of Randy Now and City Gardens. Henry Rollins, GWAR, Ministry, Green Day, Black Flag and many, many more bands played at the City Gardens club in Trenton, New Jersey, and Randy Now was the reason bands came back to play at City Gardens. Steve Tozzi talks about why bands liked Randy Now, why Steve started going to City Gardens when he was a kid, the first band he ever saw at City Gardens, skinheads, neo-nazis, the falling-out between Randy Now and the owner of City Gardens, and some great stories about Jello Biafra and Henry Rollins that didn’t make it in the film.

The 40 Oz. Pimp does his first professional interview ever with Magdalena Chovancova and Robert Ferti from the band Threestyle. Nashville recording artist Dale J. Gordon joins the interview to ask some music-related questions, as well. Magdalena Chovancova and Threestyle are a smooth jazz band from Germany. They talk about how long they’ve been playing together, their new song “Just for Fun” and new album Get It, recording in Los Angeles and Germany, working with producer Paul Brown, Robert Ferti’s guitar influences, and more.

Karl Spain interview

This week we’re giving you a little behind-the-scenes look at how things work on the Chris Brake Show by playing a tape of our segment producer Eddie Going doing a pre-interview with Karl Spain. If you’re unfamiliar with pre-interviews, before somebody goes on a talk show, a producer from the talk show will do a pre-interview with the guest to ask them a few questions. The producer will then give the talk show host a card with a few notes on it for what to talk to the guest about, and the host will refer to the card when interviewing the guest on the show.

So we play the tape of Eddie doing a pre-interview with Karl Spain, and then we interview writer Karl Spain on the show. Karl talks about beekeeping, getting stung by bees, bee bites vs. bee stings, baking cakes, My Girl, Dan Aykroyd directing sequels, and how eating local honey can help keep you healthy.
