Freeload Director Daniel Skaggs from Highway Goat Productions Interview
Chris Brake Show #59
Daniel Skaggs talks about getting arrested on Easter Sunday, the Dave Grohl rumors, clashing with Occupy Wall Street, cutting things out of the film, tattooing Skrappe’s ass, flesh-eating bacterias, and how to use the bathroom when riding a train for two days straight.
Freeload is a documentary film directed by Daniel Skaggs that follows a close group of modern-day hobos who hop trains and live as vagrants. Daniel Skaggs wanted to create a film to let these people tell their stories to the world.
Daniel Skaggs gives us his official position on the rumor that the character of Skrappe in the film was actually Dave Grohl. Some people believe that Dave Grohl went incognito to film Freeload as one of the train-riding adventurers.
“I don’t know Dave Grohl, I’ve never met Dave Grohl. I can’t say anything further.”
Daniel Skaggs gives us an update on all the characters in the film and what they’re doing now (they’re all pretty much still doing the same thing that they were doing in the film).
One of the minor characters in the film, Dice, got run over by a train after the film was made. Dice is still riding trains with prosthetic limbs. Another character in the film, Hotbox, was run over by a train and killed after the documentary was filmed. But Blackbird, Ponyboy, Rachel, Skrappe and Christmas are all still out there doing some serious train-riding.
